Mapbox: Tiles from wrong tilesets appearing on custom raster maps
Timeline of updates
- resolved
In six short lived events from February 26, 2021 through March 1, 2021, a small number of requests on the Raster Tiles API incorrectly served raster tiles from another tileset. As a result individual tiles from a customer’s tileset would have been incorrectly sent to another user. During each of these events less than two out of a million requests would have been sent incorrect data. For more information, please see https://www.mapbox.com/security-bulletins (opens in new tab).
From Mapbox’s published incident history: for incidents before Rewindex began polling this status page, only the final update text is available.
Archive proof
Rewindex commits each version of an incident it captures to a daily checkpoint, chains it to the day before, and has the checkpoint timestamped by FreeTSA and DigiCert.
How the archive is checked, and what it cannot prove.
This incident predates live tracking (October 17, 2026). It came from the vendor’s own published history, which is not covered by checkpoints.
Impact, status and times are the vendor’s own, as last archived. View on status.mapbox.com (opens in new tab).
