for Carbon Credits
A carbon credit is a permit that allows a company that holds it to emit a certain amount of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gasses. One credit permits the emission of a mass equal to one ton of carbon dioxide.
The carbon credit is one part of a so-called “cap-and-trade” program. Companies that pollute are awarded credits that allow them to continue to pollute up to a certain amount. That amount is reduced periodically. Meanwhile, the company may sell any unused credits to another company that has reached its limit.
Private companies are thus doubly incentivized to reduce greenhouse emissions. First, they will be fined if they exceed the cap. Second, they can make money by saving and reselling some of their emissions allowances.
There are two ways to invest or trade in Carbon Assets:
You can either buy, trade or offset Carbon Credits and there are several categories of credits (mostly Compliance and Voluntary) that are monitored and updated on our marketplace. This data is here to assist you in choosing the credits best suited for your needs and/or your investment strategy
If there is an area or field you relate to or believe in (e.g. forests, eco-farming, solar electricity, wind turbines etc.) you can invest in an index that specialize in one of these topics, or a n index that sums credits from the same category.
