Netlify: Percentage of builds on older build image versions failing due to SSL errors
Timeline of updates
- resolved
We've resolved the issue in our Xenial version build image, and the fix for the few affected builds using our Trusty build image will be to update to Xenial or Focal. The root cause for this incident was a missing root certificate within our OS certificate chain for Xenial and Trusty, which resulted in build failures for users whose yarn versions weren't cached. If you're still having trouble with builds, please follow up via the helpdesk by emailing support@netlify.com if you are a paying customer, or this forum thread: https://answers.netlify.com/t/ways-to-work-around-ssl-caused-build-failures-server-certificate-verification-failed/44945 (opens in new tab)
From Netlify’s published incident history: for incidents before Rewindex began polling this status page, only the final update text is available.
Archive proof
Rewindex commits each version of an incident it captures to a daily checkpoint, chains it to the day before, and has the checkpoint timestamped by FreeTSA and DigiCert.
How the archive is checked, and what it cannot prove.
This incident predates live tracking (October 17, 2026). It came from the vendor’s own published history, which is not covered by checkpoints.
Impact, status and times are the vendor’s own, as last archived. View on www.netlifystatus.com (opens in new tab).
