GitHub Copilot: Disruption with some GitHub services
Timeline of updates
- resolved
On December 31, 2025, between 04:00 UTC and 22:31 UTC, all users visiting https://github.com/features/copilot (opens in new tab) were unable to load the page and were instead redirected to an error page. The issue was caused by an unexpected content change that resulted in page rendering errors. We mitigated the incident by reverting the change, which restored normal page behavior. To reduce the likelihood and duration of similar issues in the future, we are improving monitoring and alerting for increased error rates on this page and similar pages, and strengthening validation and safeguards around content updates to prevent unexpected changes from causing user-facing errors.
From GitHub Copilot’s published incident history: for incidents before Rewindex began polling this status page, only the final update text is available.
Archive proof
Rewindex commits each version of an incident it captures to a daily checkpoint, chains it to the day before, and has the checkpoint timestamped by FreeTSA and DigiCert.
How the archive is checked, and what it cannot prove.
This incident predates live tracking (October 17, 2026). It came from the vendor’s own published history, which is not covered by checkpoints.
Impact, status and times are the vendor’s own, as last archived. View on www.githubstatus.com (opens in new tab).
