# Silently edited status incidents

Status-page incidents that SaaS vendors changed after publishing: rewritten titles, edited or deleted updates, downgraded impact, moved start times, or whole incidents deleted.
We snapshot 232 status pages every 10 minutes and keep every distinct version of each live incident (history backfilled before 2026-10-17 has one version per incident). A change counts as a silent edit when the title or published update text changes, an update disappears, or impact/start time changes without a new update.

# About Rewindex

Rewindex is an archive of how SaaS vendors change over time. Vendor pages overwrite themselves: a status page shows today’s version of an incident, a pricing page shows today’s prices, a subprocessor list shows today’s list. Once it changes, the old version is gone. Rewindex keeps every version.
## What is archived

- Status-page incidents, polled every 10 minutes through each platform’s public JSON API (Atlassian Statuspage, incident.io, Better Stack, Instatus), plus each page’s published history back to its creation.
- Silent edits: every distinct version of every incident is hashed and kept, so a rewritten title, an edited or deleted update, a downgraded impact or a deleted incident is visible.
- Pricing, trust/security and legal pages (terms, privacy, subprocessors), fetched once a day. A new version is stored only when the visible text changes.

## Method

- Change detection uses a SHA-256 hash of a canonical form of each document, so cosmetic churn (timestamps, counters) is not a change.
- Failures are data: every fetch attempt is logged, so gaps in coverage stay visible and uptime figures stay honest.
- Incident impact is the vendor’s own label. Durations are resolved minus started, as published.
- Pages are fetched politely by RewindexBot (see /bot), at most a few requests per host per day for pages.

# RewindexBot

RewindexBot is the crawler behind Rewindex. It archives public SaaS status pages, pricing pages and trust/legal pages so that changes over time stay visible.
## How it behaves

- User-Agent: \`RewindexBot/0.1 (+https://rewindex.com/bot)\`.
- Fetches only public pages; never logs in, submits forms or executes checkout flows.
- Honors robots.txt: a \`Disallow\` for \`RewindexBot\` (or for \`\*\`) on a path stops fetching of that path.
- Status APIs: at most 2 requests per host every 10 minutes. Pricing, trust and legal pages: about one request per page per day.
- At most 8 requests in parallel across all hosts; 6 s connect timeout, 25 s max, at most 5 redirects, 8 MB body cap.
- Unchanged content is not stored again; only a new hash of the visible text creates a new version.
